The Uganda Electoral Commission has suspended all campaigns and election meetings in eleven districts including Kampala, Mbarara, Kabarole, Luweero, Kasese, Masaka, Wakiso, Jinja, Kalungu, Kazo and Tororo among others.

According to EC, the suspension followed the Ministry of Health’s advisory about the affected districts being high risk regarding the spread of COVID-19.

The announcement was made on Saturday, the 26th of December 2020.

This as campaigns come close to an end. According to the EC schedule, campaigns are supposed to end on 12th of January ahead of the 14th of January 2021 polls.

National Unity Platform Presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine is in Kyatonde and was expected to campaign in Kampala in the next few days.

On the other hand, NRM’s Kaguta Museveni is set to head to Mukono on the 28th of December after his two day Christmas break.

The move has quickly gathered criticism with many saying it is aimed at blocking NUP’s Robert Kyagulanyi from campaigning in Kampala where he is expected to gather massive support.
