Consecration and enthronement Kumi diocese elected Bishop, Rev. Okunya postponed

The Church of Uganda has postponed the consecration and enthronement of the elected 2nd Bishop of Kumi Diocese, Rev. Okunya Charles Oode. This was a resolution met at a House of Bishops meeting that was held on Saturday 14th December, 2019.

This was in a statement from the Provincial Secretary of Church of Uganda, Rev, Canon William Ongeng.

Back on 7th November, 2019, the House of Bishops sitting at Namirembe Guest House elected Rev. Okunya Charles Oode to replace the Rt. Rev Irigei who is set to retire at the end of December, 2019.

“The Rt. Rev. Thomas Edison Irigei will still retire on 29th December and will hand over the ecclesiastical and episcopal authority of the Diocese to the Archbishop,” said Rev Ongeng in the statement.

The move to hand over the ecclesiastical and episcopal authority of the Diocese to the Archbishop is provided for in the Constitution and Canons of the Church of Uganda.

A according to the statement, a service will still be held on 29th December 2019 at St Peter's Cathedral Ngora at 10am for Bishop Irigei's abdication.

The Church Of Uganda has not given any reason as to why Rev. Okunya Charles Oode’s Consecration and Enthronement as the 2nd Kumi Diocese Bishop has been postponed.
