The Presidential flag bearer for the National Unity Platform (NUP), Robert Kyagulanyi has cast his vote in Magere, Wakiso district amid praise and chants from supporters.

Kyagulanyi who is commonly known as Bobi Wine turned up at the polling station in his home area with his wife Barbra Itungo, an affair that has not heavily graced social media due to the internet shut down in Uganda.

The pop-star turned politician gave an emotional press briefing where he said that it was an honour for him to represent his generation in the 2021 general elections.

“When I looked at that ballot paper an saw my face, my mind ran back to the ghetto in Kamwokya. This is hope to all those that think themselves inconsequential,” Kyagulanyi said.

Bobi Wine said that while casting his vote, he dedicated it to many of his friends who suffered the consequences of his taking on President Yoweri Museveni. He was quick to express his joy for Ashraf Kasirye being able to vote. Kasirye is a journalist for the online Ghetto TV that followed Bobi Wine across the country during campaigns. He was injured while Bobi Wine was holding campaigns in Masaka.

“I am thankful to God that Ashraf Kasirye is alive to see this day. i am glad that he was able to gain his consciousness,” Bobi Wine said.

Bobi Wine is sad that his closest friend Ali Bukenya commonly known as Nubian Li and many other individuals including his bodyguard Edward Ssebufu (Eddie Mutwe) were not able to vote today. Nubian Li and 48 others are in military custody as they were charged for the procession of live ammunition.

Kyagulanyi and wife had a peaceful time voting despite the large crowds which usually kick the security operatives into action. His Electoral Commission appointed security helped him wade through a sea of youthful supporters. The musician is hopeful that he will win.
