The Director of legal services in the National Resistance Movement (NRM) has advised against a move by the party’s Secretariat barring all NRM MPs who voted against the removal of the Presidential age limit from attending the national Delegates Conference at Namboole Stadium.
In a letter written to the NRM Secretary General, Justine Kasule Lumumba dated 15th January 2020, the Director of legal services in the party, Oscar John Kihika says that the 30 members that opposed the age limit bill are entitled to attend the conference by virtue of Article 11(2) (i) of the NRM party constitution.
“To the best of my knowledge, these MPs have thus far not been dismissed from the NRM,” John Kihika says in the letter.
On Tuesday 14th January 2020, in a press conference, the NRM Secretary General, Justine Kasule Lumumba announced that top administrators in the party had given guidance to bar those who disagreed with the institution’s stand on the passing of the Age limit bill from attending the conference set to happen at Namboole.
The NRM legal Director has now advised the Lumumba to allow the said MPs to attend the national Conference.
“Arrangements should be made to ensure that they (said MPs0 attend the National Conference just like all the other members,” Kihika said in the letter.
The NRM national Delegates Conference will take place on the 25th January 2020.
