Rev Isaac Solomon Mwesigwa, an Anglican priest who claims that he was kidnapped is to be produced in court over allegations of giving false information.
According to the Police Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) spokesperson Mr Charles Twine, Rev Mwesigwa claimed that he had been kidnapped by armed men while driving his car, a white Toyota Raum car Reg. No. UAR 468D.
However, CCTV footage obtained by the Police shows the Reverend exiting his car and leaving it at the location it was found without the forceful aid of armed individuals.
The priest, was expected to face a Judge on Thursday but the court was closed. He is set to appear in court tomorrow, Friday 21st February.
At the moment, the accused is being held at the Jinja Road Police Station.
Rev Mwesigwa of Kasaka-Gomba, Central Buganda Diocese and who is also a student at Uganda Christian University called relatives on Sunday, 9th February claiming that he was being taken by unidentified armed men.
The Police started an investigation immediately after the alleged kidnap. His white car was recovered on Tuesday, 11th February by residents in Sonde Parish, Seeta in Mukono District.
Rev Mwesigwa was later recovered in Soroti District. He was reportedly abandoned by the "kidnappers" at St Peter's Cathedral in Soroti town.
He was later received by Church of Uganda Archbishop Stanley Ntagali, who was in the area for a pastoral activity.
Archbishop Ntagali handed Rev Mwesigwa to police at the Soroti Station where he recorded a statement.
