HEALTH FOCUS: Local experts study new COVID-19 strains
Scientists are working to learn more about mutations or new strains of COVID-19 particularly about how easily they might spread, whether they could cause more severe illness, and whether currently authorised vaccines will protect people against them. The current new strain was first identified in the United Kingdom and continues to crop up across the U.S. and around the globe, threatening to further strain overburdened health care systems just as vaccines are rolling out worldwide.
