From France to Ireland: FUFA unveils Mckinstry as new Uganda Cranes head coach

Monday September 30, 2019

34 year old Irishman Johnathan McKinstry has been unveiled as the new coach of men’s National team, the Uganda Cranes.

The unveiling took place at the FUFA House in Mengo on Monday morning.

Mckinstry threw in the towel at former Bangladesh club Saif Sporting Club before he could be unveiled in Uganda.

He is also former Sierra Leone and Rwanda head coach.

He fills the shoes of tactician Sebastien Desabre who ditched the national team for a coaching position at Egyptian outfit, Pyramids FC.

His unveiling comes a time when FUFA President Moses Magogo has stepped aside from office to pave way for a FIFA investigation into the alleged sale of the 2014 World Cup tickets.

According to FUFA CEO Edgar Watson, Mckinstry was awarded a three year contact that runs with effect from October, 1st.

"There is no doubt that the Uganda Cranes job is one of the best jobs in international football across all over Africa. I am excited to be here. The players here are the group I believe we can achieve a lot with" Mckinstry noted shortly after being unveiled.
