Parliament has fulfilled the UGX 114 million pledge it made to the Ghetto kids. The pledge is meant to cover a debt the youngsters have over a house they acquired but partly paid for.

The pledge that was made by MPs last year, on December 19, 2019,  on learning that the ghetto kids were on the verge of losing their home located along Salaama road over 100 M debt has been handed over to the dancing group by the speaker of parliament, Rebecca Kadaga.

According to the Clerk to Parliament Jane Kibirige, the MPs raised a total of UGX 114,250,000, of which UGX 100 million will go towards clearing the owner, Manisul Ssekatawa, while UGX 14,250,000 is meant for the Ghetto Kids' welfare.

She also revealed that the UGX 100 million for the house had been already been given to the landlord in person.

"We didn’t know who was who, we had to investigate who the landlord is to give him the money in the presence of the beneficiaries,” Kibirige says.

The Ghetto Kids is a dance group founded by Daouda Kavuma and composed of young talented children from the Katwe slum.
