Security beefed up at Namugongo ahead of Martyrs day celebrations

Tuesday May 28, 2019

With just five days to the big celebration of martyrs day, security has been tightened at both the Catholics and protestants shrine in Namugongo.

This as dozens of pilgrims have already started the journey from their respective areas as far as DR Congo to the holy ground.

According to sources, the tightening up is for the ‘country’s good’

The take over by security personnel has come with new rules as anyone in need of accessing the venue will first seek permission before they can be allowed to access the grounds including journalists.

The new rule takes immediate effect.

Namugongo always attracts millions of faithful Christians from DR Congo, Rwanda, Sudan, Burundi and districts across the country every 3rd of June to celebrate the 45 Anglican and Catholic converts to Christianity who were killed on orders of Mwanga II, the Kabaka of Buganda in 1887.
