One person has died after Police disrupted an illegal eviction in Kyampa Zone, Makindye II Parish in Kampala on Thursday evening the Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire has said in a Press statement.

According to ASP Owoyesigyire, the Police in Katwe was called after 9 pm and notified of individuals of over 20 people armed with clubs, hammers and machetes who were demolishing rental units. These units were occupied by 9 families.

“We strongly believe that they were hired to carry out an illegal eviction and it could be the reason why they were carrying it out at night under the cover of darkness by-passing the right procedures,” ASP Owoyesigyire says in the Press statement.

The police, according to a press statement, was met with resistance from the armed group which led to a scuffle that involved gunshots.

One of the suspects was fatally wounded, something that led others to flee the scene.

“The body of the deceased person has been conveyed city mortuary Mulago for postmortem,” ASP Owoyesigyire says in the statement.
