The Anglican of Mityana diocese Dr Samuel Kazimba Mugalu has been elected the Arch Bishop of the Anglican Church of Uganda.

He was elected by the Church's house of Bishops at St Paul's Cathedral Namirembe. The House of Bishops is made up of the Church's 38 Bishops.

Dr Kazimba will also become the Bishop of Kampala “So, Kampala Diocese will say farewell to their Bishop and prepare to receive a new Bishop, who is also the Archbishop,” Provincial Secretary, Rev. Canon Captain William Ongeng said.

Raised by a single mother in the Katwe slums, the 57 year old will lead the Anglican church in Uganda until he makes 65 which is the Church's retirement age.

He says he was inspired by the late Archbishop Mpalanyi Nkoyoyo to join the Church of Uganda clergy, and he has managed to reach the pinnacle of that calling.
