First, Deputy Speaker of Parliament Thomas Tayebwa has urged officials at the National Identification and Registration Authority to make IDs more accessible, especially in rural communities. He notes that some Ugandans have to travel long distances to access these services. He made these remarks today at NIRA offices in Kololo, where he had gone to pick up his identity card.

So far, NIRA has distributed about 4 million new cards, and they are aiming to distribute 1 million cards per week in the coming weeks. They are also urging Ugandans to collect their new IDs, because these are a game-changer and a gateway to government services.
