Qatar businessmen to explore trade opportunities in Uganda

On the 10th of September, Uganda will host business leaders from Qatar.

Led by the Chief Executive Officer of the Qatar Development Bank Mr. Abdulaziz Bin Nasser Al-Khalifa, the business leaders will be part of a pitching session at a matchmaking event at the Sheraton Kampala hotel.

This is Qatar’s first business delegation to Uganda, and it is hoped that it will lead to more business ties between the two countries. Uganda and Qatar are some of the countries supporting Somalia’s fragile peacebuilding effort.

Speaking about the opportunities Uganda offers Qatari businessmen, Mr Abdulaziz called the country one of the fastest-growing destinations for international investments and expressed his excitement at the opportunities it presents.

“Uganda is one of the continuously growing East African destinations of international exports and foreign investments thanks to its business climate and growing economy.” He said.
The matchmaking event will be hosted by Qatar Development Bank and will cover FMCG, construction, energy and power, pharmaceuticals and medical supplies, packaging and logistics industries.

Qatar which is one of the world’s largest suppliers of liquified Natural gas has been looking to diversify its economy and for its efforts, it has been lauded by the International Monetary Fund’s Mohammed El Qorchi.

Uganda, on the other hand, has been on a promotional drive, trying to woo foreign investors to invest in East Africa’s third-largest economy, the country has built infrastructure, is hosting inter-country business forums, and has been discussing a plan to use its foreign missions to promote trade.
