What you need to know:

  • KCCA also come into this game having picked their first away win after failing to do so in the previous two continental campaigns.

KAMPALA. KCCA’s opponents in the Caf Confederation Cup Association Sportive Otôho D’oyo dropped to this playoff stage after narrowly losing their Caf Champions League game against Zimbabwe’s Platinum on away goals rule.
The Congolese champions had before this season also never played a continental game.

That could be the biggest information the Uganda Cup holders have about their opponents as the two teams meet this evening in the first leg of their playoff game in Congo Brazzaville.
KCCA manager Mike Mutebi is however unlikely to fret over that as he has often emphasized the importance of his side using the same offensive approach both at home and away.
His side that in the previous round recorded a home and away victory over Tanzania’s Mtibwa Sugar and reached last season’s Caf Champions League will be favoured to progress.

“Of course we go there to win. That’s the mentality. If they play an open game then that suits us,” Mutebi said after his team’s 1-0 league win over URA this week.

They will also need the character displayed in that game as they unusually created few goal scoring opportunities either side of captain Timothy Awany’s strike from a corner. Having traveled with the fit again Hassan Musana and Eric Senjobe, Mutebi could slightly alter his lineup.
Mustafa Kizza who has appeared shaky in the past two matches could move back to the left wingback position after playing in the back three over the past two matches.
This would then have Herbert Achai in a more central role or Lawrence Bukenya starting following the absence of injured attacking midfielder Jackson Nunda.
