The deceased have been identified as Sergeant Rosemary Nakitende, a police officer attached to Kibaale central police station in Kibaale district and Mr Mathias Mbusa a popular decorator at functions based in Mubende town.

According to Police, the duo met their death on Friday at around 7pm when the vehicle, a Toyota Spacio registration Number UBE-974E in which they were travelling overturned several times after its driver lost control at Kawere, at least one Kilometre to Mubende Town.

The Kibaale District Police Commander, Mr David Otabong who rushed to the scene after learning that one of his officers was involved in the accident said that the officer had been permitted to go and attend her parent’s marriage golden jubilee celebration in Mubende district.

‘‘She had been permitted to go and prepare the golden jubilee of her parents in Mubende. She was in the vehicle with her mother, brother, a decorator and the driver. As they were driving just shortly before approaching Mubende town, the driver lost control and the vehicle overturned,” Otabong said.

Nakitende had a phone which sympathizers used to inform Police about the accident.

Locals who rushed to the scene took victims to the Mubende regional referral hospital but the decorator died as they approached the hospital gate.

As medical workers prepared to operate the police officer, she died, Otabong said.
