On Monday, police in Kampala Metropolitan impounded over 200 motorcycles for defying presidential directives aimed at preventing the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic in Uganda.

In his recent nation address, President Museveni maintained his directive on boda-bodas that stops all riders from carrying passengers saying it could lead to the spread of COVID-19 due to lack of social distancing.

The president directed Boda-boda riders to continue carrying cargo during this time as the country fights the spread of COVID-19.

According to police, several riders and passengers have been arrested and detained at various police stations in Kampala Metropolitan Police area.

“The suspects will be charged with disobedience of lawful orders and doing acts likely to spread infectious disease which is Coronavirus,” says Patrick Onyango, Kampala Metropolitan police spokesperson

Onyango says this will serve as a warning to people who continue to defy the regulations on motorcycles.
