Uganda faces shortage of fistula surgery experts
Despite Uganda registering about 1,900 new cases of obstetric fistula every year, the Ministry of Health says there is still a shortage of experts to perform surgeries to correct the damage. With only 25 surgeons available nationwide, the Ministry acknowledges the need for more specialists in this field. The Ministry says it is working towards establishing a sustainable national fistula treatment support system.
