The stage is set for this year’s All Africa Junior Golf Championship where 13 countries will lock horns at the challenging Royal Dar es Salaam Golf course.

The course has for years been the venue of the King Hassan 2 Open, a European Tour event.

The teeing off gets under way from 8am Tuesday for the first round of the 72-hole championship which is taking place here for the first time.

This follows the Captains and managers’ meeting for the tournament whose winner will represent Africa in the Toyota World Junior Championship in Japan.

Earlier, 18 countries had indicated their willingness to participate in the tournament though only the 13 nations turned up.

It will be a wet championship as the rains continued in the morning and were predicted for the whole week. Unperturbed Kenya coach John Van Liefland said the boys and girls are all ready for the event.

“We tried to play a practise round, but I had to pull the girls out of the course as I didn’t see the need of them getting rained while tomorrow they actually playing the first round’’ said Kenya girls coach Rose Naliaka.

Of the 13 countries, defending champions South Africa, Uganda, hosts Morocco, Tunisia, Kenya, Nigeria, Zimbabwe, and Egypt have entered boys and girls teams.
