His highness the Aga Khan bestowed with Uganda's highest medal of honour
And while reading out the Aga Khan's name, the chairman of the awards committee General Elly Tumwine noted that the AgaKhan has been involved in development work for the last 60 years, and has played a key role in providing jobs to Ugandans.

His Highness the Aga Khan Prince Shah Karim Al Hussaini the 49th hereditary spiritual leader of the Shia Ismaili Muslims has been honoured with the “Most Excellent Order of the Pearl of Africa” medal. The medal is the highest honour Uganda can bestow.

According to the National Honours and Awards Act, 2001, is given to Heads of State and Heads of Government and was bestowed upon the Aga Khan by President Yoweri Museveni in Bushenyi during celebrations to mark 55 years of independence.

The AgaKhan was honoured for his work in helping to build Uganda's socio-economic sector. The AgaKhan through the AgaKhan development network owns some of the leading companies i.e Diamon trust bank, the AgaKhan schools, Bujagali energy limited, Kampala pharmaceuticals limited among others.
