Five people, including two toddlers drowned on Tuesday, 26/06/2018 in Lake Bunyonyi. The five were using a canoe from Hamukaka village in Kyenyi Parish, Rubanda district heading to Karambo village where they did farming.

The deceased are Agnes Turyasingura aged 29, her nine months old baby Jacob Niwahereza, Patience Akampurira 21, her 8 months old toddler Shivani Ainembabazi, and Macklin Tumuhekyi aged 20.

Police reports that the boat they were using  capsized in the middle of the Lake due to large water waves caused by strong winds. The body of baby Shivan surfaced later on.
Local divers from Kachwekano are still searching for the other bodies.

Lake Bunyonyi is believed to be the second deepest lake in Africa and it takes the fifth position in the world. This makes it hard for divers to find the bodies. The police is waiting for assistance from the Marine Unit in Entebbe.

The incident happens 2 months after three people drowned in the same lake.
