Opposition leader Kizza Besigye vows not to return to Mbarara court

Former FDC President Dr Kizza Besigye has vowed not to return to the Mbarara Magistrates’ court after 19th, Oct 2018, if the state does not produce witnesses in his case.
Besigye made the call as he appeared before Magistrate Sanyu Mukasa in Mbarara today. He is jointly charged with his driver Fred Kato, FDC Chief Mobiliser Ingrid Turinawe, FDC President Patrick Oboi Amuriat and Kawempe South MP Mubarak Munyagwa.
The magistrate has issued criminal summons for Munyagwa and Amuriat after State Attorney Carol Kesuubi argued that their absence was jeopardizing proceedings.
Defense lawyer, Erias Lukwago ask the prosecution to produce the witnesses in court but it failed and it prompted him to ask the court to discharge his clients.
The four politicians allegedly committed the offences as they moved in a procession through Mbarara town on 14 November 2017 to hold a campaign rally for Patrick Amuriat at Kakyeka stadium.
