Lilly Ajarova appointed new UTB Boss

Lilly Ajarova has been appointed to be the executive Director of the Uganda Tourism Board. Ajarova is the Executive Director of the Chimpanzee Sanctuary and wildlife trust. She was, on Thursday, announced by the State minister for tourism, Godfrey Kiwanda as the Board’s ED.

Ajarova contested for the position alongside nine others that were shortlisted in December 2018. One of those shortlisted is the former Uganda Wildlife Authority Boss Andrew Sseguya.

The appointment follows a restructuring process which saw the previous Boss leave is position.

Ajarova studied at the International Tourism Management College in Austria. She garnered experience working for the likes of Sheraton and Delmira tours and travel while awaiting her graduation.

After graduation she got a job at Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) as the tourism development manager.

“My job jurisdiction, among other things, included getting the gorilla tourism sector developed and marketed. This included developing guidelines, training the guides, setting the rules and the system for selling gorilla permits to the tour operators,” she told the Daily Monitor in 2017.

In 2005 she was appointed executive director at Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary. She has held the position for 12 years.

The Wonder Woman also served as a member of the Advisory Committee of Pan African Sanctuary Alliance and she also chaired the committee of the Uganda tourism Board.
