Foreign Journalists association demands immediate release of arrested journalists

The Foreign Correspondents' Association of Journalists has spoken out on the recent attack on journalists that saw three journalists, their driver and a wife to another journalist get arrested.

According to Police, Godfrey Badebye, Kassim Mohamad and Rashid Kaweesa who are said to be working with BBC Africa are the three arrested journalists.

Police says the the three were arrested alongside their driver only identified as Shafiq and Vivian Serwanjja, a wife to NBS TV's Solomon Serwanjja.

Patrick Onyango, the Police spokesperson revealed that these were arrested after detectives found Government medicine in the house of Solomon Serwanjja who he adds is being looked for to record a statement.

"Ugandan authorities must not criminalize journalism which is a vital part of a the society " reads part of the statement.

The association also called for the immediate release of all those arrested and asked the security operatives to ensure the safety of Solomon Serwanjja who they say is still at liberty.
