General Kale Kayihura was summoned to Mbuya - UPDF

Former Police Chief General Kale Kayihura

The Uganda People's Defence Forces (UPDF) has denied reports that the former Police Chief is under arrest.

In a statement, the UPDF spokesperson Brigadier Richard Karemire says General Kayihura is still a serving soldier and was summoned to Mbuya by the Chief of Defence Forces General David Muhoozi.

He says that when a helicopter went to pick him, they found that he had travelled to Mbarara.

On Friday evening, NTV reported that security operatives were searching hotels in Lyantonde where General Kale Kayihura is a regular.

It is not yet clear whether the decision by the Chief of Defence forces to summon the former Police Chief General Kale Kayihura has anything to do with the security situation in the country or he is being taken into custody.

But the UPDF's spokesperson says Kayihura is already at the UPDF headquarters in Mbuya, Kampala.

President Museveni on March 4 fired Gen Kayihura as Inspector General of Police and elevated his deputy Okoth Ochola to succeed him
