Francis Zaake released, rearrested and taken to Gulu

ARUA. The police has this morning rearrested MP, Francis Zaake, after he appeared before the Chief Magistrate in Arua.

After the police drive with him throughout the night from Kampala, Zaake arrived at the court at 10:40 am and produced before Chief Magistrate, Mr Daniel Lubowa.

The charges were then read to him. He was charged with escaping from lawful custody.

He then entered a plea of not guilty. During the 20 minutes court session, Zaake was granted bail by the Chief Magistrate but with conditions of non Cash bail of She 50 million.

His two sureties, Ms Nesma Ocokoru, the LC 3 Chairperson of Arua Hill Division, and Mr Mathew Akile, a councilor in the Municipality were also bonded with non Cash bail of She 50 million.

Magistrate Lubowa said: "I agree with the Resident State Attorney that stringent conditions be made on the accused and sureties because we are all interested in ensuring that they return to this court and have it done."

Mr Jimmy Madira, the Lawyer who represented Zaake, said this was a humiliation to have a responsible citizen re arrested from court premises.

"He should have been rearrested from another place and not to humiliate him like they way they did. there should be respect to human beings on their rights in this country," he said.

After he completed the documentation of the bail at the Chambers, plain clothed policemen rearrested him and is now being driven to Gulu High Court possibly to be charged together with the treason suspects who are already reporting for the cases.

The police deployed heavily at the court premises and they blocked entrance to the High Court from the junction of Awindiri
