Arua Municipality MP Ibrahim Abiriga shot dead

Arua Municipality Member of Parliament Colonel Ibrahim Abiriga has reportedly been shot dead in Kawanda, Matugga, Wakiso.

The MP was reportedly shot dead along with his bodyguard by two men travelling on a Boda Boda.

Abiriga was reportedly approaching his home when the assailants struck.

In a statement, the Police Spokesperson Emilian Kayima confirmed the incident and says Abiriga was shot dead by unknown assailants near his home in Kawanda.

Abiriga a former soldier in former Uganda President Idi Amin's Uganda Army, served as an RDC in Westnile for over a decade and was in his first term as a member of parliament.

He had also just completed his diploma and was one of the proponents of the Constitutional Amendment Act 2017.

Abirigga's death is similar to that of former Assistant Inspector General of Police Andrew Felix Kaweesi, and Public Prosecutor Joan Kagezi.

UPDATE: Parliament has now confirmed that the MP Ibrahim Abiriga has been shot dead as he approached his home in Matugga.
