Saturday June 09 2018

President Museveni on Saturday morning visited slain MP Ibrahim Abiriga’s home in Kawanda, where he consoled the deceased’s family, and also reiterated the government's plan to install CCTV cameras across the city.

The president pointed out that the murder was likely due to Abiriga’s support for the NRM party.

“It is possible they thought that by killing him, they would hurt the NRM”, the President said.

The president cautioned Ugandans to fight using ideas and not senseless violence .

Last night after getting information that MP Ibrahim Abiriga had been shot dead, the President directed security agencies to find the assailants who shot the Arua Municipality Member of Parliament (MP), Ibrahim Abiriga and his younger brother Said Buga Kongo.

Abriga a member of the ruling NRM party was gunned down on Friday at about 6:30pm at Kawanda off Bombo Road on his way home with his younger brother Private Buga Said Kongo.

In a statement, the police has indicated that they have recovered bullet shells of an AK47 sub-machine gun, and teams are working round the clock to ensure that those who shot the MP Ibrahim Abiriga are arrested.

This is not the first time the President has promised to install CCTV Cameras.
In 2017/when former Assistant Inspector General of Police Andrew Felix Kaweesi was shot near his home, the President promised that government would install CCTV Cameras and the discussion is still on going.
