Africa free trade area to start in March - Museveni
The president believes that the free trade will solve the fragmentation problem facing most African countries

President Yoweri Museveni

The Tripartite Free Trade Area is set to commence come March this year.

This is according to the President of Uganda Yoweri Kaguta Museveni who says he believes the free trade will solve the fragmentation problem facing most African countries.

The Tripartite Free Trade Area seeks to create a large single market with free movement of goods and services with the East African Community EAC, Southern African Development Community SADC and Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa COMESA.

''The key problem for Africa was the fragmentation into 54 small markets,''.Museveni indicated.

The deal which was first signed in Egypt in June, 2015 pending approval by national parliaments has seen Uganda sign the agreement with hope that it will expand trade opportunities.

The agreement will see 27 African countries benefit from the open boundaries of different fellow member states.
