Malaria outbreak in Northern Uganda leads to adoption of new drug
Artesunate was found to register better outcomes in terms of treatment than quinine in treating severe malaria.

A report by the Malaria Consortium shows that despite the fact that Uganda adopted new guidelines to treat severe cases of malaria with the new drug artesunate, it was reluctant to start using the drug, until there was a crisis in northern Uganda.
