Health ministry to burn 1,500 tonnes of expired drugs
The move comes at a time when many health facilities around the country are facing drug stock-outs and several patients have failed to get the drugs they need.

The Ministry of Health together with National Medical Stores, Joint Medical Store and the National Drug Authority has embarked on a drive to destroy expired and obsolete drugs estimated to be about 1500 tonnes.

This was revealed by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Health Dr. Diana Atwine during a press briefing in Kampala on Monday morning

The move comes at a time when many health facilities around the country are facing drug stock-outs and several patients have failed to get the drugs they need.

However, the health officials say the absence of drugs in the health facilities cannot be blamed on expired drugs.
