Gold exports out of Uganda for the year 2016/2017 have moved up a record $100 million (Shs360Billion) from the previous year’s gross exports of $200 million (Shs720 billion).
With the gold exports now at nearly a trillion shillings ($300 million), according to Bank of Uganda, the cummulative gold exports are “puzzling” given that there are no major mines in existence in the country.
Relatedly, the Uganda Chamber of Mines, also agrees that refining of the country’s mineral laws, could enhance transparency on transaction of precious minerals such as gold.
