Civil society warns government on unsustainable debt
Julius Mukunda the coordinator CSBAG also cited the ever-increasing expenditure on debt repayment as a constraint to the growth of other key sectors of the economy.

Government has earmarked 2.7 trillion shillings for debt interest payment as shown in the budget framework paper for the financial year 2018/2019, this according to CSOs is suffocating funding to critical sectors of the economy

The civil society advocacy group CSBAG says the government risks are dragging the county into heavy indebtedness if it does not check it’s appetite for borrowing.

 

Julius Mukunda the coordinator CSBAG also cited the ever-increasing expenditure on debt repayment as a constraint to the growth of other key sectors of the economy.

 

He was speaking at the review of the FY2018/10 National framework paper.

The civil society organisations also underscored the need for policymakers to prioritise funding to research in order to stimulate productivity and growth in the agricultural sector
