Taita Taveta football club set to be launched

Taita Taveta County governor Granton Samboja is set to launch the Taita Taveta Allstars Football Club at Dawnson Mwanyumba Stadium in Wundanyi on Saturday.

Samboja is launching the combined Taita Taveta team just few months after Kisumu County Governor Anyang Nyong’o launched the Kisumu All Stars FC that participates in the National Super League (NSL). Taita Taveta sports director Leonard Otieno said Football Kenya Federation president Nick Mwendwa will grace the occasion.

Otieno said that after the launch Taita Taveta Allstars will play a friendly match against visiting Soy FC from Kakamega.

“Following the final trials that concluded mid this week in which 25 competent players were selected, we shall launch present the team to the public,” he said.

TRIALS

The trials started three weeks ago in all the sub-counties with over 300 players turning up for the final exercise on Wednesday. The newly selected 25 players have set up camp in Wundanyi and will be employed by the county government specifically to play football.

Besides Samboja and Mwendwa, other dignitaries who will attend the event include deputy county governor Majala Mlaghui, Members of Parliament from Taveta, Voi, Wundayi and Mwatate constituencies, all members of the County Assembly (MCAs) as well as the FKF South Coast branch chairman Gabriel Mghendi.

Otieno said the team will seek inclusion in one of the FKF leagues this season.
